A Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus while preserving the cervix. The procedure is also known as LSH (Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy).

During the Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy procedure, the uterus is exposed by dissecting the ligaments and transecting the blood supply – the ovaries and fallopian tubes are divided from the uterus and remains in the abdominal cavity. The dissecting and transecting is performed by using a cutting and coagulation forceps like the LiNA PowerBlade.

Once exposed, the uterus is amputated at the isthmus leaving the cervix. The amputation can be done by using a loop device. LiNA Medical has a wide range of loops available for this; the LiNA Bipolar Loop that uses bipolar energy and the LiNA Gold Loop and LiNA Gold Loop HC which uses monopolar energy.

When the uterus has been amputated it can be extracted by using a morcellator, e.g. the LiNA Xcise cordless morcellator. The surgeon then morcellates the uterus/tissue and removes it through the incision in the abdomen in long tissue strips.

Once the uterus has been extracted from the abdominal cavity by using the morcellator, the ports are closed and the Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy is finished.
